Activity 4 1-19-11 Dissolving

Show an image or animation or description of what is happening when water dissolves NaCl.

Why is the freezing point lowered when salt is added to water?
In order for water to freeze, the molecules must align themselves in an orderly fashion. When salt is available, it prevents the water from reaching this ordered state as easily. Therefore, this requires the water to be colder before it freezes.
The higher the concentration of salt, the lower the freezing point.
