Bonding of Atoms (Activity 3 1/11/11)

1. Covalent bonding is when two atoms share electrons. For example, if Oxygen (O) was to be added to Oxygen they would be sharing electrons which is called covalent sharing.
An ionic bond is formed by the attraction between two oppositly charged ions. So a positive charged ion called a cation and a negative charged ion called anion come together.
2. Electronegativity is a chemical property that describes the tendency of an atom to attract electrons towards itself. - therefore the tendency to form negative ions.
3. Electronegativity for
H - 2.1
Na - 0.9
Cl - 3.0
O - 3.5
